It was a weekend of community – of laughter and joyful tears – of celebrating US as we came back to Campus! It was just fun!
Thanks
Thanks to our Reunion Chairs who – for the 2nd year in a row – knocked it out of the park – Lisa Fagan Walts and Pamela Smith! With 95 alums and 18 guests in attendance, we talked, danced, laughed and of course, ate and drank!
Also contributing to a fantastic reunion were Alecia Oberg McClure for the survey and booklet, Mindy Setzler Kolodziej for weekend beverages, Pamela Freeman Dear for the parade signs, Julia Brown Thompson for leading our Saturday night book group, Virginia Smith for showcasing our class archives and junior show, Charlotte Lehmann for Class Memorial Service, Nancy Barlow for Friday night dinner and parade costume, Beth Spong for Friday night M&Cs, Rochelle Calhoune for Saturday cocktail hour, Lisa Hawley Hiley for a lovely Sunday morning walk around Upper Lake, Catherine Sullivan McLoughlin for bringing sweet snacks, Sarah James Landis for being our IT guru, and Pam Riley for hospitality/welcome. In addition, thank you to ALL who were the teams behind the Chairs and all those who helped with the setups and cleanups.
And special thanks to Moe Tracy, Lisa Oca and Marianne McDermott as head class agents helping our class raise over $120,000 with a 35% participation rate.
If I’ve missed anyone, my apologies.
Highlights
The reunion chairs put together an incredible weekend for us while we were in the fabulous Creighton Hall. Friday evening was the “Welcome Back Class of 1983 Dorm Dinner”, with a delicious menu catering to all dietary needs, a wonderful swing singing performance by classmate Lynn McCune, ending with – as we always did – M&Cs.
Saturday was a beautiful day on campus (well ok – the rain held off until after lunch on Skinner Green at least). Since it was graduation weekend, the parade was extra moving with the graduating seniors in attendance. Many attended the Alumnae Association meeting, where VP Kathy Hughes gave her speech standing in for Class President Jerri Barrett. Then on to the lunch on Skinner Green (hotdogs, hamburgers and oh those brownies!) and then various wanderings around upper and lower lake, the Odyssey and all the other events MHC had to offer that weekend.
Saturday evening started with the Class Meeting (see notes here), a lovely Memorial Service headed by Charlotte Lehman and then our class cocktail reception. After dinner in the central Dining Commons, we headed to our class book club discussion led by Julia Brown Thompson or back to our dorm for a 1983 dance party hosted by uber-DJ Amy West.
Finally, Sunday featured a lovely walk around Upper Lake led by Lisa Hawley Hiley and then thankfully time to recover!
